Special Weather Advisory

September 1, 2016

SPECIAL WEATHER ADVISORY from the Village Manager:

As of the latest updates from the NWS in Wilmington and Brunswick County Emergency Services, Tropical Depression #9 is expected to increase into a tropical storm as it tracks up the southeast coastline once it passes northern Florida. The latest predictions have it crossing northern Florida early Friday morning as it reaches the South Carolina coast through the day Friday. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting the storm to track along southeastern North Carolina Friday evening relatively quick passing to the north early Saturday morning. We can expect to see potential wind gusts along the immediate coast with a 30-40% chance greater than 39Mph. Based on the current track rainfall amounts will be highest along the coast with 4-6 inches with lesser amounts inland. Any flooding impacts will likely be highest Friday afternoon and evening ending Friday night.

Public Works will be on island first thing Saturday morning to complete a clean sweep of Village roads of all debris to get us through the Labor day Weekend.

People should closely follow the progression of this storm and begin preparing for tropical storm force winds by securing items that can be blown about by the wind.

Additionally, we continue to recommend the following helpful information below:

if you find it necessary to be out and about around the island, please be careful of any downed limbs or tress. The “Wynds” along BHI in some areas can puddle and flood. Please be mindful as you approach some of these areas to slow down as you proceed cautiously. Golf carts do not always fair well in water due to the proximity of the batteries in relation to the flood water.

As always, if you have any need to call on Public Safety please DIAL 911 and Brunswick County dispatch will notify them ASAP. The village Public Safety Department is here to help!

As there may be disruption with the pending storm you may want to consult with Bald Head Island Transportation for the most up to date ferry schedule information. You can call 910-457-5006 or visit their website at www.baldheadislandferry.com.
