Taxpayers to Vote on Deer Management
During last
Friday’s Village Council budget meeting, a motion was passed to
hold a referendum on deer management in a format that will give ALL
taxpayers a vote in how the Village will manage the deer population.
Animal
Control is often a very emotional issue that involves not only taxpayer
dollars but taxpayer philosophies. The question is whether to manage the
herd through lethal culling or through immunocontraception with limited
culling.
Although
many details remain to be worked out, the procedure would have each side
prepare a statement presenting their perspective, followed by written rebuttals
and then the four documents would be sent to all taxpayers for their
vote. This would give each side the opportunity to share their views and
would give the taxpayers the privacy to vote their views without social
scrutiny.
Confidentiality
would be maintained through the use of an outside accounting or legal
firm. Hopefully, the whole process will be accomplished within the next
six months and will give everyone an equal voice.
In
the interim, the Bald Head Island Conservancy will do a deer count and
deliver to the Village two reports on the deer population, one in the
next few weeks and one in late September/early October.
Mayor
Sayre feels strongly that the Village Manager, staff and Council
represent all taxpayers and is hopeful that by allowing both sides the
opportunity to state their case, a group consensus can be reached and we
can respect each other’s differences in a way that moves us forward as a
community.
WWP Makes Top Ten List!
WWP
was featured in several sections of Carolina Homes and Interiors
and Coastal Million Dollar Homes. The widely distributed
magazines emphasized our association with Leading Real Estate Companies
of the World (LRE) and our role in the sales of the top ten most
expensive homes on Bald Head Island in 2009. Four of our listings were
showcased. Theodosia’s Bed and Breakfast was actually on the cover and
had its own article!
